Saffron Walden Town Band is a community wind band that performs a wide range of music, from Classical pieces through to modern popular music. Our aim is to be the best community wind band in Essex.

 

The band consists of both adults and students with ages ranging from 10 to 70+ including several family groups which creates a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to rehearse and perform. We currently have around 35 members.

 

The band is willing to accept anyone who wants to play. We do not hold auditions or enter competitions. We never turn anyone away. There is no minimum standard although we would expect people to be able to read music and to be able to play their instrument.

 

In recent years the standard and reputation of the band has improved significantly, enabling the band to undertake three European tours. Spain 2001, Italy 2003 and Holland 2005, each of which was very enjoyable and successful. We hope to arrange further tours in the future.

 

Every year we undertake several performances such as fetes and concerts to raise money for music and equipment as well as for local charities. In the past we have supported Saffron Sight and Medics. In January 2005 we raised £2300.00 for the Tsunami Disaster Appeal.
